1. ASTRO BOY

Astro Boy is a famous manga series written and illustrated by manga artist Osamu Tezuka, and it was published between 1952 and 1968. It is also known as Mighty Atom. Astro Boy is a science fiction comic set on a futuristic planet where robots coexist with humans. The manga has sold around 100 million copies, and many anime and video game series have been created based on the original Astro Boy.

2. ONE PIECE

One of the most famous shonen manga is One Piece. Shonen manga is a manga aimed at a young male audience (especially boys ages 8 to 18). Follow the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, a young man whose body has acquired the properties of rubber after unknowingly eating Devil Fruit. It is written by manga artist Eiichiro Oda and the first volume was published in 1997 and is still being published. In 2016, the manga earned 380 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling manga series in history.

3. GOLGO 13

Golgo 13 is the second best-selling manga series in history, and it is also the oldest manga ever released. The first edition was published in 1968 and was created by manga artist Takao Saito. Golgo is a professional assassin whose identity is unknown. He accepts many assassination missions from anyone who can pay for his services. The name of the main hero 'Golgo 13' is a reference to the death of Jesus Christ (Golgo is short for Golgotha, while the number 13 is considered an unfortunate number because there were thirteen participants in the Last Supper).

4. DRAGON BALL

Dragon Ball is a Japanese manga series, written and illustrated by manga artist Akira Toriyama. The main character is Son Goku, who trains in martial arts and explores the planet in search of the seven orbs known as Dragon Balls. The manga follows the adventures of Son Goku from infancy to adulthood. The cartoon has 42 volumes and was published between 1984 and 1995.

5. NARUTO

Naruto is a Japanese manga series that tells the story of Naruto Uzumaki, a teenage ninja who constantly seeks recognition and dreams of becoming the Hokage, the ninja of his village recognized as the leader and the strongest of all. The series is written and illustrated by mangaka Masashi Kishimoto. The first volume was released in 1997 and a large number of video games were developed from the Naruto manga.

6. BLACK JACK

Black Jack is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by mangaka Osamu Tezuka in the 1970s, which deals with the medical adventures of the main character, Doctor Black Jack. The manga consists of short and independent stories of about 20 pages. The main character pretends to be a medical mercenary, selling his skills to whoever pays the price, while his strange appearance comes from an incident in his childhood, in which he and his mother were injured in a explosion.

7. KOCHIKAME

Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Koen Mae Hashutsujo, often referred to simply as Kochikame, is one of the most beloved manga in Japan. It is a comic manga series written and illustrated by mangaka Osamu Akimoto. It takes place today, in and around a neighborhood police station in central Tokyo, and revolves around the misadventures of cop Kankichi Ryotsu. It was serialized continuously in the Weekly Shonen Jump for 40 years, from September 1976 to September 2016. The series received a Guinness World Record for the most volumes published for a single manga series.

8. OISHINBO

Oishinbo is a cooking manga written by Tetsu Kariya and drawn by Akira Hanasaki. The series chronicles the adventures of food journalist Shiro Yamaoka and his partner Yuko Kurita. It was one of the best sellers at the time of its launch (between 1983 and 2008). To date, more than 100 million copies have been sold.

9. SLAM DUNK

Hands down the most popular sports-themed manga, the Slam Dunk series, is written and illustrated by Takehiko Inoue. This is a Shohoku High School basketball team. By 2012, Slam Dunk had sold 120 million copies in Japan alone, making it one of the best-selling manga series in history. Hanamichi Sakuragi is one of the main characters in the manga, a criminal and leader of a gang.

10. CASE CLOSED

Case Closed is an ongoing Japanese police manga series written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. He was originally known as Detective Conan. The first volume was published in 1994 and the story follows Jimmy Kudo, a high school detective who sometimes works with the police to solve cases.
